How to creat an add-in for Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac?

Wednesday, December 21, 2016 6:39:55 PM America/Los_Angeles

I can see that Office 2016 for Mac now supports add-ins. How do I go about developing one? Will it be possible to convert existing VSTO-developed COM add-ins for Windows to the Mac version?

No, there is no tool for converting VSTO based add-ins (i.e. COM add-ins) to Office Apps. You need to develop Office Apps (Add-ins) from scratch.

FYI MS rebranded Office Apps as Office Add-ins at the Build#15 conference. See Get started with apps for Office in MSDN for more information.

Add-ins are coming to Microsoft Office for Mac

Monday, December 19, 2016 5:54:08 PM America/Los_Angeles

Microsoft's 2016 Build Developers Conference just wrapped up, and although the conference focused heavily on Windows 10, Office for Mac got some love as well.

According to Microsoft's Office Dev Center, the company is bringing its add-ins feature to the Mac version of its Office suite. Add-ins, which allow third-party developers to add functionality and features to Office, are already a key feature of Office on Windows and iOS, as well as the Office Web apps, so their arrival on the Mac will bring that suite more in line with the rest of the Office universe.

Add-in support for the Android version of Office is still "in the works," according to Microsoft.

Examples of add-ins currently available include one that lets you look up information on Wikipedia, another that translates text from within Word, and another that lets you save items to Evernote while you're using Outlook.

Other new add-in features are coming soon

Of course, Office add-ins for the Mac aren't the only developer goodies Microsoft is adding to its productivity suite.

Add-in developers will soon be able to create toolbar buttons and drop-down menus for add-ins (making them more seamless with the rest of the app), new add-in deployment tools for IT administrators, add-ins for OneNote, and the ability to install add-ins that aren't available through the Office Store (a process known as "sideloading"). Check out the Office Dev Center if you're interested in learning more.

Skype for iOS gets native Microsoft Office support

Wednesday, November 23, 2016 6:29:50 PM America/Los_Angeles

The update is more evidence of Microsoft attempting to unify its software applications, just like it's trying to do with the Windows 10 operating system. Last October, Microsoft added Skype integration into Microsoft Office products, allowing users to instant message, voice, or video call your contacts directly while working on a document. And group video calling is gradually rolling out for mobile versions of the Skype app.

With the latest update, when you're in Skype you can "receive, review, and respond" to documents on your smartphone or tablet.

The company also announced the ability to save Skype video messages to Photos, just by tapping and holding the message, allowing users to share them to loved ones or simply store it for safe-keeping.

Adding an Extra Time Zone to Outlook 2016 Calendar

Tuesday, November 22, 2016 6:09:37 PM America/Los_Angeles

If you travel a lot, work with people from around the world, and you need to manage your time effectively, Outlook's built-in calendar is the perfect way to do it. For me, I came across a handy feature that lets you add extra time zones to the Outlook calendar. This is great when you travel across different time zones and need to track activities in various locations at the same time. In Windows, you can add a second clock to its Date and Time in the System Tray. If you would like to do that too, check out our article here.

And if you live in Outlook all day, here's a look at how to manage time zones better. Add Extra Time Zone Outlook 2016 Calendar

Launch Outlook 2016 and go to File > Options.

Then in Outlook Options, select Calendar from the list on the left.

Scroll down to Time Zones heading and check the box Show a second time zone and then select the time zone you want to add in the list box and click OK.

Now when you launch the Outlook 2016 calendar, you will see the additional clock now appears. You can go back to the Calendar options and swap them around if you want, too.

How to Add Google Drive to Office 2016

Monday, July 25, 2016 7:23:07 PM America/Los_Angeles

You posted a way to add Google Drive to Office 2013 and it worked great. I now have Office 2016. Do you know of a batch file that will add Google Drive to 2016?

Install the Drive plug-in for Microsoft Office - Google Apps > > Google Apps Administrator Help > Drive Google

To use the Drive plug-in, you need to enable the Google Drive apps setting for your organization. This allows the Drive plug-in to office and open files in Google Drive.

1.Sign in to your Google Admin console.

2.Click Apps > Google Apps > Drive > Data Access.

3.In the Drive SDK section, check Allow users to install Google Drive apps.

Can I buy office 2016 or offie 2011?

Monday, May 23, 2016 7:45:53 PM America/Los_Angeles

I recently bought the new Macbook 12" (El Capitan, early 2016).

I want to get Microsoft Office for it but the reviews on 2016 are awful. Can anyone recommend a legitimate source to purchase Microsoft Office 2011?

Does anyone have any experience with Office 2016 and El Capitan?

The company I work for provides free copies of microsoft office 2016 since they've subscribed to Office 365 but I'm sticking with my own copy of Office 2011 because I found

2016 to be horribly slow by comparison. The really sad thing is I still have a copy of Office 2004 and that runs faster in a VM running Snow Leopard on my MacBook than

2011 does natively despite the fact that Office 2004 is PPC so Snow Leopard is using Rosetta PPC emulation to run it. Just how MS has managed to make a native app that

slow is beyond me but there you go and with every release it gets worse.
